5 — Methodology

The dataset is the public GOV.UK OZEV authorised-installer register, queried across a UK-wide postcode grid and de-duplicated on a normalised name + postcode key. Records keep only installers that list commercial work. Full pipeline and refresh cadence on the methodology page. The raw JSON used to build this page is at /data/installers.json.

6 — Caveats & known limitations of the OZEV register

The OZEV register is a list of authorised installers — it does not certify capacity, current trading status or recent project history.
Region is taken from each installer's listed postcode. A national installer with a single registered office appears once, in that office's region, even if they work UK-wide.
Postcode-area counts measure where installers are registered, not where they have completed installations.
The register is refreshed by GOV.UK on its own cadence; this snapshot reflects what was visible on the date stamped above.
“Commercial-only” vs “commercial + residential” reflects what each firm has elected to advertise via OZEV, not the actual mix of work delivered.
